An Orchestra Student

Victor Mendevil

Clatter and bells, breathe

Short pumps of sad air in tune

Ending in sunlight.

Under stiff batons,

Choking hair buns, arms upright

Black collars of weight.

Fermatas melt ice

Hard and cubed – release warm hugs

Unified, lushly.

Marching batons fly,

Streamers of confetti, glee!

Toes will tap to tune

Spinning like pinwheels,

Lined sheets replaced with passion,

Hums dance, and exist!

Strings are not timber,

Let them wobble and freefall

Soaking in music.
